When God Says, "Go For It!"

Sometimes God says “YES!”

If you are one of my faithful email friends you know that just last week I told you all about how sometimes, God says, “No.” I’m not renegotiating on my obedience. And I’m not suggesting we don’t take no for an ANSWER. I actually think “no’s” are a big part of life. In fact you must say NO to the things not meant for you so that you are free to say YES to the things you are called to in this season.
I was watching a story on my Instagram feed, and I saw a girl who was hosting a retreat. I was so intrigued. But instead of an automatic yes, I decided to direct message for more information. I didn’t ask fully if I could register because I didn’t want to get rejected. And I didn’t want to fully commit because I was nervous it may not be for me. “hey, your retreat looks intriguing.” Her response, “Come!” Instead of just jumping in with a “YES!” I hesitated. What if it’s not worth the investment? What if it’s not what I hope? What if I don’t fit with the other ladies? What if I miss out on something else?

But I had already said NO. NO to the things that were no longer serving me. NO to the commitments I was not called to right now. NO to the relationships that were toxic and so I had space in my heart, my hands and my calendar to say “YES!” If you want something new, something old must end.

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This is what I heard as I pondered my registration. “Jen, you have surrendered your heart to Jesus. You seek Him first in all your ways. Perhaps if it’s in your heart to do, He has placed it there and God is saying YES!”

Loss is an unavoidable ingredient of the world we live in. It is an inevitable part of all our story. It so often comes in the form of one small word, NO. But you can take courage and experience loss without declaring yourself a loser. You may have had a set-back or two, but YOU are not SET-BACK. You may even have failed, but you are not a failure. And remember the ending is necessary for a new beginning. YES! Feels good. Even if it’s a little scary there is something about it that makes us come alive. It’s anticipation, hope. It’s excitement and belief in the future. Don’t settle for NO. THERE IS MORE. More life ahead. More purposes to be chased. More promises to be fulfilled. God says, “go for it!” You can say YES! Yes to the new business, Yes to writing the book. Yes to attending that small group, Yes to inviting her to lunch. Yes to traveling, Yes to taking control of your health. It’s time, make way, because sometimes—often times God says YES!”

“Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident.” (Colossians 1:20 MSG)
