Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Fear can often paralyze us, just as it did to the disciples when they saw Jesus walking on water. But Jesus reassured them, saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Today, reflect on the fears that may be holding you back from fully trusting God. It could be fear of the unknown, fear of failure, or fear of rejection. Just as Peter overcame his fear by fixing his gaze on Jesus, we too can find strength in Christ. Pray for the strength to overcome those fears, knowing that Jesus is with you in every storm. Ask Him to help you keep your eyes on Him and not on the turbulent waters of life. In doing so, you will discover the peace that comes from trusting in His presence and promises. Peter’s fear got the best of him when he saw the wind, causing him to doubt and begin sinking. Yet, Jesus immediately reached out to rescue him.
When my kids were little and I would find myself overwhelmed just from the daily needs and tasks it required in a seemingly mundane season, I would sit in my car and take a deep breath inhaling and exhaling the very words Jesus called out to the water, “Peace, be still.”
Reflect on moments in your life when fear has caused you to doubt God’s presence or promises. How can you find comfort in knowing that even in your moments of doubt, Jesus is there to lift you up?
What steps can you take to overcome fear and trust in His unfailing love?
