Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
God created us for relationships, both with Him and with others. Meaningful friendships enrich our lives, providing companionship, support, and encouragement.
In truth, we can never insulate ourselves from circumstances that will threaten our stability. Life is chock-full of curveballs and crisis moments that rock our ability to even stand sometimes. A life free from struggle isn’t in the cards. And we will fall down from time to time. This is why we need friends around a table. We need partners that can lift us when we stumble.
If you’ve ever stumbled, or fallen, or hurt yourself in a place where no one was there to help, you know the sense of desperation. It’s not good to be alone. God said it Himself. Two is always better than one. And it’s a sad, yes “woeful” state of affairs if you find yourself fallen with no one to help you up.
Reflect on the friendships in your life that have been a source of strength and joy. Who has been there to pick you up and dust you off when you stumbled along the way? Consider how these relationships have shaped your faith journey and helped you grow spiritually.
And how have YOU been the friend that has been there to pick up your brother or sister? We both lift and are lifted in friendship.
As we journey through life, we need friends who lift us up, challenging us to grow deeper in our walk with God and supporting us in times of need. Take a step to cherish and invest in the friendships that reflect God’s love and grace in your life, knowing that together, you can stand.
