Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
There’s a challenge before you today as you read this passage of Scripture. It’s a call to consider yourself and the investments you are making where you live, work and play. It’s a question to ponder: Are my life and the community I invest myself in, empowering a positive impact in the world? Am I storing up a treasure of eternal worth?
Godly friendships empower us to make a positive impact in the world by sharpening us spiritually and encouraging us to live out our faith boldly. Jesus-first friends put His mission into action; they link arms and apply Christ’s love in ways that make an eternal difference. They love well. They encourage intentionally. They point people to the hope of Jesus. They make an impact.
Reflect on friendships that have inspired you to step out in faith and serve others. Consider how these friends have challenged you to grow in compassion, humility, and love. Where do you need to take an intentional step to serve outside yourself today?
In community with fellow believers, we find strength and courage to shine the light of Christ in a dark world. Let us embrace our role in encouraging and supporting each other to fulfill God’s kingdom purposes. And may our friendships reflect God’s love and draw others closer to Him through our unity, faithfulness and service.
