Proverbs 11:14 (AMP)

Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory.

We need wise counsel because no one has full perspective. No one sees in 360 degrees. Like the mirrors on a car, you and I need external input that helps us see our blind spots. That’s what wise counsel provides. But where do you find it?

The answer yet again is found in the rich resource of our circles of community. Seeking out Godly circles is the essential step to gaining godly wisdom and perspective. These are the people who love us and know us. They are the gifts willing to speak truth into our lives. And what an incredible gift that is: to be seen, and known, and loved no matter what.

In seasons of doubt, we need timely words of truth to buoy our faith. In times of confusion, we need a right-on-time voice of clarity, to remind us of God’s promises and guide us according to God’s will. When we face tough decisions or are simply overwhelmed by the everyday pressures of our daily pace, circles offer wise counsel.

Think about someone in your life who has been a source of wisdom for you. Perhaps it’s a mentor, a pastor, or a trusted friend. Reflect on how their words and advice have influenced your decisions and strengthened your faith. I’m guessing you have been that person for someone else from time to time to.

Life’s most poignant moments of wisdom and connection rarely happen over a podcast or from across a stage. They happen best in circles, large and small. Seek yours out today. Be proactive. It’s like adjusting the mirrors on your car. It only works if you use them.

As you navigate your life’s current challenges and weighty decisions, remember the value of seeking wise counsel from those grounded in God’s Word. God regularly uses people to help guide our path and equips us to walk faithfully in His ways. And perhaps, if you look carefully for the opportunity, God will use YOU today, to be that same voice of encouragement, wisdom and insight for someone else.

Reflect on a time when someone offered you wise counsel that significantly impacted a decision you made. How did their perspective help you see things more clearly and align your choices with God’s will? What did you learn from that experience about the importance of seeking guidance from others?

Consider the circles of community you are a part of. Who are the individuals in your life that you turn to for godly wisdom and support? How can you be more intentional about seeking their advice and involving them in your decision-making process?

Think about a situation where you could offer wisdom and encouragement to someone else. How can you actively step into that role today? Reflect on the ways God might use you to provide insight, support, and guidance to others within your circles, and how that aligns with being a source of godly counsel.
