Psalm 94:19 (NIV)

When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy.

Today’s modern generation is experiencing an epidemic of anxiety. Millions of Americans suffer from panic disorders, depression and worry. You might be reading this right now, and confusion and chaos are swirling through your mind and heart.

Great news: the Word of God offers an antidote to anxiety. It’s found in the very presence of God Himself. The Psalmist writes that when anxiety was at its greatest, the “consolation” of God brought joy in its replacement. Another translation of that passage says, “Whenever I am anxious and worried, You comfort me and make me glad.”

I want you to catch how proactively involved God wants to be in your comfort. In fact, when Jesus described the Holy Spirit, the first word He used was “Comforter.” It is the essence of who God is. He, Himself, is the antidote to your anxiety, your depression, your concern, your doubt, your worry, and your overwhelm. Simply standing in His presence causes those calamities to run. His presence brings comfort and gladness. Wow!

How has God’s presence been a refuge from doubt and fear for you?

Consider how dwelling in His presence brings clarity, peace, and joy. Seek His face earnestly. Invite Him to comfort you right now. Ask Him to make you “glad.” He wants to do it.

In moments of uncertainty, God invites us to draw near to Him and find solace in His presence. Cast aside your doubts and fears and press into His presence. As you abide with Him, His gladness and joy dispel the darkness and comfort your anxiety. Rest assured in God’s presence—your sanctuary of consolation and care.
