Joy Emerges in Rest

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

God does profound things in our seasons of rest. In fact, self-powered striving never produces God-honoring results. You are invited into a burden releasing moment with the Shepherd of your heart. When you are tired, He says, “Come to Me.” He has a soul-rest in store for you.

I love that Jesus gives us a tender insight into His very character in Matthew 11. He describes Himself as gentle and humble of heart. Doesn’t that sound inviting? Who wouldn’t want to rest and be restored in the presence of true gentleness and humility? Picture Jesus, arms wide open to receive you. A wry, gentle grin on His face, and a wink in His eye. “You can chill here with Me. I’ve got you covered. My gift to you is a rested and restored soul. Kick up your feet and stay awhile.”

Wouldn’t you love to hear an invitation like that from Jesus Himself? Read Matthew 11:28-30 again. You just did.

Reflect on the invitation of Jesus to find rest in Him. Consider how true rest in God’s presence leads to a deep-seated joy that surpasses human understanding. Just as Jesus promises rest for our souls, you can choose to surrender your burdens right now, and find refreshment in His love and peace.

And resting in God is more than mere physical relaxation; it’s a spiritual posture of trust and dependence and soul care. As we abide in Him, His joy becomes our strength. Prioritize His presence every day, knowing that true joy springs from a heart that finds rest in the Lord.
