In this verse, God is calling Abram (who later becomes Abraham) to leave his homeland and follow God to a land that God will reveal to him. This marks the beginning of Abraham’s journey of faith and obedience to God’s call.

Have you ever had a dream or a calling that ignited a spark within your heart? It’s that initial “YES” to God’s plan, the moment you say, “I believe this is what I’m meant to do,” and you step into the unknown with a heart full of hope. But then comes the challenging part—the waiting.

Saying “YES” to a dream or a calling is often the easy part. It’s a powerful and exhilarating experience to recognize a purpose in your heart that you believe God has placed there. You’re ready to fulfill your destiny, become everything you were created to be, and you eagerly say, “Lord, here I am. Let’s do this.”

That “YES” is often accompanied by expectations and hopes of what’s to come. You envision the fulfillment of the dream and the journey that will lead you there. Like Abraham, you embark on this journey of faith, ready to see God’s promises unfold before your eyes.

But here’s where the journey takes an unexpected turn. The waiting period begins. It’s a time when your initial excitement meets the reality of waiting. Abraham, too, experienced this waiting period. God promised him that he would be the father of many nations, and yet, years passed without the fulfillment of that promise.

In the midst of the waiting, questions arise. Doubts creep in. You might wonder, “Did I hear God correctly? Have I taken a wrong turn? Did I believe in vain?” The waiting period is a season of testing and refining. It’s where your faith is stretched and strengthened.

Abraham’s journey of faith followed a pattern of promise, excitement, waiting, doubting, testing, refining, reinforcement, and eventual fulfillment. It’s a sequence that mirrors the journey of many women of faith. We’re called to embrace the waiting, trust the process, and understand that God’s timing is perfect.
