Philippians 3:10 (NIV)

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death.

Suffering, an unwelcome guest on the journey of life, often appears as a stumbling block rather than a stepping stone. But in this verse we find an invitation to embrace suffering as a means to draw closer to Christ and grow more like Him.

“I want to know Christ,” is the heart’s cry of a believer who seeks a deeper, more intimate relationship with Jesus. It’s a longing to understand His character, His love, and His purpose.

The verse speaks of “participation in his sufferings,” as a path part of the Christian journey. Just as Christ endured suffering for a greater purpose, we, too, may walk a path marked by hardships.

The ultimate goal is “becoming like Him in his death.” In the process of suffering and hardship, we have an opportunity to become more like Christ. His character, His perseverance, and His unwavering faith are qualities we can develop as we navigate through trials.

In the refining fire of suffering, we grow in Christlikeness. We learn to rely more on His strength, to trust in His love, and to radiate His light. Suffering is the chisel that shapes us into vessels capable of reflecting His glory. Embracing suffering does not mean seeking pain, but it does mean acknowledging its transformative potential. As you participate in His sufferings, you are on a journey to becoming more like Christ, radiating His light and love even in the midst of life’s challenges.
